Finland expands the number of subjects to receive the 4 . vaccine

Finland recommends that local governments launch a fourth dose of the COVID-19 vaccine for people in home care as well as immunocompromised elderly people.

According to the Finnish Institute of Health and Welfare, the recommendation is based on an updated monitoring database on COVID-19 and the protective effectiveness of vaccines, as well as the opinions of the Vaccine Expert Group.

Previously, authorities recommended a fourth dose of vaccine for people over 12 years old with severe immunocompromise, people over 80 years old and all elderly people living in nursing homes.

In Finland, 87.5% of people over 18 years of age have received 2 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, while about 51% of people over 80 years of age have received a fourth dose, 3 months after the third dose.

Currently, a few European countries have implemented a fourth dose of vaccine for all people over 65 years of age. The medical community expects that governments will lower the age for this vaccination.
