Japanese artist creates amazing sculptures from food packaging, “turning trash into treasure”

Food packaging is something we often don’t notice or throw away, but Japanese paper craftsman Harukiru has repurposed them into amazing sculptures.

Harukiru’s craft is the epitome of the adage “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure”, taking what seems to be trash to a whole new level.

From Nissin Cup Noodles to Superman Sentai

Artisan Harukiru has transformed Nissin cup noodles into sentai superheroes in an impressive way. Just to be clear, the sentai superheroes in the Super Sentai series are known to be the main inspiration behind the Power Rangers series in the US.

Harukiru’s products even impressed Nissin when the cup noodle division’s social media team opened showcase this artist’s works of art from noodle cups in a promotional tweet. The tweet promotes the brand’s new flavor when superheroes sentai different fight it to win first place in terms of revenue.

After a week of watching, Nissin announced the flavor that won this fight, which is Cup Noodle & Shio.

Harukiru’s standout masterpiece is the one he made out of Pringles cans, giving us a glimpse of what the brand’s iconic mascot would look like if he had a body.

Harukiru uses every part of a Pringles can to create paper people with all four limbs, including the lid is turned upside down to become the stand of each character. The layer of paper that is covered when opening the lid is often thrown away after being peeled off, which is also used to styled into sleek vests for the gentlemen of the Pringles.

Turn Charlotte boxes into towns like in the animated Ghibli world

Harukiru was also able to create a part of town with detailed shops using the packaging of the famous Japanese chocolate brand – Charlotte.

Using various illustrations of colorful houses on the boxes, Harukiru arranges them to represent the different shops in a quaint town. He even used photographs of people and animals to bring the town to life.
