Luxurious interior of business class aircraft inside a 350 km/h high-speed train in China

The “Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics” train (aka Bullet Train) designed by Tangerine features an aviation-style interior inspired by Chinese cultural heritage. The train was specially developed to transport athletes, media staff and fans from Beijing to the ski center in Zhangjiakou at speeds of up to 350 km/h. Photo: James Hill

The ship’s lavish business class is equipped with 18 flat seats. It would not be an exaggeration to say that these seats are similar to those on high-class flights of Etihad Airways or Singapore Airlines. Photo: Tangerine

Inside the cabin, there is a large TV screen, a folding wooden tray, a storage compartment next to the seats and a reading light. Photo: Tangerine

The director of Tangerine said that the design of the ship reminiscent of the aviation industry was completely intentional, to provide an experience comparable to regional airlines. Compared to 2 or 3 hour flights in the region, bullet trains can offer a cheaper, greener and more convenient journey in the same amount of time. The aircraft interior looks striking with its winter sport styling combined with motifs such as snowflakes, icicles and snow engravings. The warm red color scheme in the train is the result of the Olympics happening to coincide with the Lunar New Year. Photo: Tangerine

The train includes a restaurant next to the VIP carriages and is equipped with a bar and media center. This hub allows passengers to enjoy sporting events on the big screen while sitting comfortably on sofas. Photo: Getty Image

Business class seats are equipped with wireless charging, personal screens and luggage storage by the safety seats. This chair can be rotated. After the Winter Olympics ended, the train still ran and rotated regularly to serve visitors. Photo: Tangerine

The train also has a luxury bed area with a view overlooking the window. Photo: Tangerine
