Many auto dealers stop accepting deposit contracts because of ‘scarcity’

Although the end of the first quarter of 2022, the shortage of cars in the Vietnamese market is still very “hot”, many models cannot meet the quantity to pay customers according to orders. Car buyers have to wait many months since signing a deposit contract to receive a car, or have to accept a price difference (beer with peanuts) from a few tens to hundreds of millions of dong to receive the car soon.

According to a survey by the staff of VOV.VN, the shortage of cars, especially models that are of great interest to many people, such as: Kia Seltos, Sonet; Hyundai Santa Fe, Tucson; Toyota Raize, Veloz Cross…. The first days of May 2022 still increased. Many car dealers in Hanoi do not even accept deposits for certain models because they do not know when they will have a car to return customers because the order has been delayed to 2023.

Mr. Nguyen Tuan Minh from Nam Tu Liem, Hanoi shared, his family is in need of buying a Toyota Raize to travel, but when asked at the dealer, they announced that they did not accept to sign a deposit contract anymore because they did not know. never had a car.

“I asked if I signed a contract now, when would I be able to receive the car, but the sales consultant always said that now I no longer sign a deposit contract because the car is not enough to return the customer signed many months ago. I even accepted to lose more money, but the agent did not accept to sign the contract. If you switch to other car lines, you have to wait at least a few months to have a car, “- Mr. Minh said.

Not only Toyota models, many Hyundai and Kia models are also in the same situation – dealers do not accept deposit contracts to buy cars.

According to dealers, the current shortage of cars is mainly due to insufficient supply, a month of orders when up to a few dozen units/model; But when the car arrives at the dealer, there are only a few cars, so the buyer has to accept to wait or get a deposit back if they want.

“Due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Ukraine-Russia conflict, and the fact that China is applying a blockade order in some big cities like Shenzhen, Shanghai, etc., many car manufacturers do not have enough spare parts. , chips for assembly, the factory had to suspend production. That leads to a shortage of cars, and supply is not enough for demand,” said the director of a car dealership in Hanoi.

Regarding the shortage of goods, a representative of TC Group said that there are many reasons leading to insufficient supply and demand for car models – SantaFe, Tucson… In which, the biggest reason must be from the crisis. The global semiconductor crisis has caused a shortage of many components that make up the product.

“Especially with high-tech products like Santa Fe & Tucson, the impact of component shortages is even more pronounced. In addition, the impact of Covid-19 has also affected the ability to supply components and transport products of manufacturers in the global Hyundai system. In the near future, when the shortage of components is resolved and our production capacity is completely stabilized, the above situation will be resolved soon,” a representative of TC Group said.

Currently, TC Group is making efforts to increase the supply of components and production activities to get the product as soon as possible to serve consumers.

The Japanese automaker – Toyota Vietnam also forced the company to specifically announce on the company’s official Facebook about the situation of insufficient supply and demand, causing many models to be sold in the style of “beer with peanuts”: “We do not have this policy [ép khách mua xe kèm phụ kiện]. Toyota’s policy has always been consistent: First come, first served. We ask all agents to comply with the above policy to protect the interests of customers.”

At the same time, Toyota also suggested that customers facing the situation of selling “beer with peanuts” cars contact the call center through the hotline for handling. It can be said that the sale of cars with accessories is familiar to Vietnamese consumers and is expected to continue due to the limited number of vehicles.
