Specifically, scammers pretend to be big brands and send users notifications about the program “Customer gratitude gifts when reaching 30 million members”. In fact, MoMo wallet is not currently implementing any similar events, so this is determined to be a new island selection trick.

After sending a notification to the user, the fraudster will ask the Mono wallet user to provide account information to log in. At that time, those who are gullible will be beaten by greed when they say they will receive gifts worth about 2 million VND. They will say this is a gift for the Mono wallet event of 30 million customers.

In the email sent to the users of the application will contain a Google form. After the user clicks on the link, they will be asked to access, provide information about the MoMo wallet being used to receive this bogus gift package.

In order to increase reliability, emails sent to victims using MoMo wallets are often named with the keyword “momo”.

A representative of MoMo confirmed: “This is completely a scam to appropriate money in customers’ e-wallets”. When seeing emails with similar content, users should ignore and avoid clicking on links and providing any login information, MoMo recommends.

In addition to the above fraud, the bad actors also actively messaged the victims via social networks such as Facebook, Zalo and sent QR codes to request payment for the order, and then returned the money to them. According to MoMo, QR scanning is to establish a link between their e-wallet accounts and purchase accounts used by scammers on popular online services such as Lazada, Tiki, Sendo, Google, and Apple. …

After the user scans the QR code with MoMo wallet and establishes the link, the objects will use the same account to shop on the linked online platforms without having to re-authenticate the password or OTP during the process. payment. Therefore, users will easily lose money in their accounts without shopping or using transactions.

As recommended by MoMo wallet, users absolutely do not provide the password, one-time verification code (OTP) of the e-wallet to anyone else, even someone claiming to be an employee of the service provider company. At the same time, the login account information should not be used anywhere but the official wallet application.

In particular, people must be wary of common forms of fraud today such as sending links that do not contain a login request link, shouting QR codes, etc. Furthermore, users’ personal information needs to be protected. security and absolutely do not post on social networks to avoid objects using such information to hack accounts, occupy all assets.
