New Zealand criticizes China-Solomon deal

China on April 19 confirmed that it had signed a security agreement with Solomon. To date, the content of the agreement has not been released, but the leaked draft has raised concerns in the US, Australia and its allies that China able to deploy forces military to Solomon. Australia says China’s construction of a base in the Solomons is a “red line” while the US has vowed to act if it happens. Prime Minister Solomon Manasseh Sogavare has assured that there is no intention of allowing Beijing to build a military base there.
