At Quanta Computer’s factory, workers were suddenly banned from returning to their dormitory areas during off hours due to Covid-19 restrictions. A video shared online showed hundreds of angry white-shirted workers shouting and jumping over barriers as security guards in protective gear tried to stop them.

Another clip of the video shows a female worker hitting and screaming at a man as he tries to strangle another worker. It is not clear if any of those involved in the confrontation were security guards, but the person who was strangled appeared to be wearing a worker’s uniform.

Apple and Quanta Computer have not yet commented on the content of the posted video. Meanwhile, unnamed factory employees confirmed to Bloomberg that the clash had occurred, adding that the workers were tired and frustrated with the Covid-19 restrictions.

After the report was published, Apple placed the Foxconn facility “on probation” and said it would not reopen until it met “strict standards”.
