The UN Security Council in its session on May 6 unanimously adopted a statement supporting the efforts of the UN Secretary-General to find a peaceful solution to the conflict in Ukraine. We reiterate that all member states – under the UN Charter – have an obligation to settle international disputes. by peaceful means.”

According to the news agency AP, the joint statement did not mention terms such as “conflict” or “special military operation”. The entire meeting on Friday lasted only about a minute.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed the Security Council’s move, saying he “will not stop working to limit casualties and find a path to peace”.

Russia’s support for the declaration – drawn up by Mexico and Norway – shows that Moscow is ready to take diplomatic measures to end the confrontation, said Mexico’s permanent representative to the UN Juan Ramón de la Fuente Ramírez said to TASS.

Previously, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres visited Moscow and Kiev at the end of April. To date, the UN has successfully arranged two evacuations of civilians from the Azovstal factory in Mariupol, where the militants are located. Azov convoy and Ukrainian forces are entrenched.
