In an even match, Thailand opened the scoring from the 31st minute thanks to striker Patrik Gustavsson. But the loss of people because of the direct red card of midfielder Jonathan Khemdee at the end of the first half made them gradually inferior from the beginning of the second half.

After a series of missed opportunities, Malaysia also equalized in the 61st minute with Bin Ahmad’s close-range cushion. The advantage in numbers was fully utilized by the yellow shirt team, when they increased the pressure further, and then sealed a 2-1 victory with Bin Azhar’s goal in the fourth minute of injury time.
