The salary of hundreds of millions is not wrong, but the lack of preparation is a slip from the “parking ring”

If you are an Economics person (especially a foreign trade student, National Economy…) you will definitely know the phrase “dream”. It’s the Big 4.

Big 4 is the common name for 4 leading multinational auditing firms in the world including: Deloitte, Ernst and Young (EY), KPMG and Price Waterhouse Cooper (PwC). The international working environment, remuneration regime, promotion opportunities, corporate culture… make joining these companies a goal of many young people.

Here are some young people who have inspired their work stories. Let’s listen to their sharing to better understand their work and journey to Big 4!

Journey from “zero” to Big 4

That’s the story of a guy named Le Cong Minh (currently studying an International Management program in Italy). Minh decided to go to Poland to work as a project manager for Deloitte in Central Europe – one of the branches of the group known as the “Big 4 world auditing industry”. Of course, it’s not a coincidence that the guy went straight to the project manager position, but behind that was a long journey.

Cong Minh is not the type of person who was born as a “son of someone else’s family”. At the age of 18, the male student experienced a shock when his behavior was Good, failing to go to university. A year of attending a school without really wanting to make Minh realize many things.

Le Cong Minh studied for a Master in International Management program in Italy

After spending a year of experience with works and charity activities, he was determined to retake the exam and pass the exam to the Banking Academy. After 3 months, he applied as an intern at a famous bank. At the age of 19, Minh was officially admitted to the Head Office as an expert.

At that time, Minh was a rare (and almost only) case of being accepted to work in a bank so early. To the extent that when he posted the story, he was also thought by many to be talking too much about himself. After graduating from university, Minh was accepted into a technology management position of a famous company. On the verge of career advancement, Minh suddenly came to Italy to study the International Management program when he obtained a full scholarship.

After many interviews, Cong Minh was accepted to work as Deloitte in Poland – one of the branches of the group that was dubbed the “big 4 world auditing industry”. After only 1 month of probationary period, Minh was offered the position of technology project manager. Currently, Minh’s main job is to build plans, assign work and coordinate personnel in projects so that everyone works together to create the best results.

Having a good paying job, Cong Minh decided to give up to study abroad in Italy

Along with the goal of entering the Big 4, female student Thai Doanh Nghi (born in 1999) has successfully worked at Deloitte, the city’s headquarters. Chicago (USA) when he was only a 3rd year auditing student at DePaul University. Her friend is an international student in the US and during her 3 years of university, Nghi always achieved the maximum GPA 4.0/4.0 in each semester.

Choosing to study Auditing or take the entrance exam to Big4 was not originally intended when entering the university lecture hall of Doanh Nghi. During the first 2 years of university, in order to find a major that she really loves, she took many different classes in Business. Towards the end of 2nd year, her friend happened to take an Auditing class.

Female student Thai Doanh Nghi (SN 1999) is currently an American student majoring in Auditing

When taking this class, Nghi felt excited every time he solved the exercises, the professor also asked if he planned to change his major to Auditing. At the beginning of the third year, DePaul invited her friend to join the free summer program of the Accounting major, the female student decided to seize this opportunity and study this major.

In the third year of university, when he set the goal of taking the entrance exam to the Big 4, Doanh Nghi had “winded up” to prepare for the entrance exam. She participates in online career events at school. Thanks to those events, Doanh Nghi learned a lot of good tips for writing resumes and giving interviews. During this time, she went to build relationships with the brothers and sisters who graduated from DePaul who are working at Big4 through teachers at the school. Since then, Doanh Nghi expands his relationships as well as learns other professional skills.

To be admitted to Big4 Enterprise, along with other candidates, they had to pass 2 difficult rounds of interviews. The friend recalls: “In round 1, I interviewed with a manager who has worked for a long time. He asked me questions related to my experience in my resume and some related situations. He didn’t smile until the end of the session. so I think it’s over.

The student who successfully conquered the Big 4 confessed: The hundred million salary is not wrong, but the lack of preparation is slipping from the parking ring - Photo 4.

The next day, I had a second interview with my uncle who is a senior manager. He asked about situational questions such as: ‘Have you ever had difficulty in teamwork? And how do you deal with that?’. He, on the other hand, was smiling all day so I couldn’t see how he was feeling about my answer.

After 2 rounds of interviews, I was accepted.” she is excited to share.

The good news of passing Big 4 to Nghi was also very surprising. Usually, companies will notify the results within 1-3 days at least. But just that afternoon, while sitting in the car to eat because of completing the interview, her friend received a phone call announcing her acceptance.

“Because I told the interviewer that the next day I would fly back to Vietnam to visit my family (the end of March 2021), so he said he called early to announce the results because he was afraid that I would return. Vietnam can’t receive the phone” – Gen Z female student recounted.

“I haven’t started my internship yet but I have signed a contract with the company. Interns are paid $33/h for full-time interns excluding overtime pay and other benefits. Internships at Deloitte work 8 hours, from 9 am to 5 pm. A month will work about 160 hours”.

According to Doanh Nghi’s share, the full-time intern salary will fall to about $5280/month (about more than 120 million/month). Most employees will work online from home, only a few days before they have to go to the office.

And what is their secret?

To be admitted to the Big 4, Cong Minh We advise candidates to have a professional attitude and careful preparation. The “preparation” here is to understand what position you are applying for, what the company needs and whether you fit the company’s criteria. Multinational companies also highly appreciate the confident and open attitude of candidates when they want employees to be comfortable and be themselves.

Besides the professionalism and competitive pressure or rumors about Big 4 companies, what Minh is most impressed with in the company is the spirit of trying to help new employees integrate. The guy shared a funny story: “In the past in Vietnam, even though I had foreign friends in my team, I was still used to talking in Vietnamese. Many of you who didn’t understand the native language would find it very difficult to communicate. Gradually this formed a habit and made me feel good. I was also a bit afraid to work in Poland because I was not fluent in the language, but when I joined, everyone was still very professional.

Like when there is a group of colleagues talking in Polish, if they see themselves passing they will automatically switch to English. Or when added to the chat group, there will always be an introduction with the message ‘Now you have a new friend, everyone use English’, so everyone will switch to English so they don’t feel lost.”

Minh revealed that the most important thing when applying to Big4 is the candidate’s confident and open attitude

From a person who was considered a “failure” when he failed university, Minh has continuously worked in 3 big companies with important positions. He believes that there are 3 factors that young people should pay attention to when going to work:

The most important thing is hard work. I have been working for a long time without pay, but I still study hard. Seeing what the job needs, I will learn that. In the past, when I worked as a bank, I had no knowledge of this field. I went to study immediately to supplement a banking knowledge course… That is, when I needed something, I would go to school right away, always in a state of readiness. new chance.

I often have a not-so-heavy mentality about the position and the amount of salary the company spends. Because I always want to try to work here in the mindset to learn and have new experiences. And finally life attitude always help colleagues, become a good colleague, a good friend to them“.

As for Doanh Nghi, Ms She finds the entrance exam to the Big 4 very stressful. Because there are more than 5,000 applications submitted, but the company only accepts 100, so the match rate is very high. Business Nghi said that in the process of applying for Big 4, candidates need to prepare their documents carefully. Because before the interview, this is what the employer pays attention to.

An employer once revealed to Doanh Nghi that they only looked at resumes for about 5 seconds, so it was REQUIRED: Resumes must be short and show the full potential of the candidate. A great tip when writing a resume is to use strong words at the beginning of sentences related to the industry you are applying for. This is very effective for those of you who have no professional experience.

“For example, instead of saying ‘Lead a team of a club of 5’, I could replace it with ‘Lead a team of 5 to organize cultural events at the university. ‘ So when recruiters skim, they will immediately read the action verbs they look for in a candidate.

In addition, the get to know and expand working relationships with older brothers and sisters who have been and are working at large companies It also helps a lot in gaining experience and getting job referrals.”Enterprise said.

Doanh Nghi believes that, in order to successfully pass the interview round and catch the eye of the employer, candidates need to have a relaxed attitude. Advice is: Answer the interview like you are talking to the other person, not asking and answering.

Interview advice: Answer like you are talking to the other person

“During the interview, I should always have a slight smile on my lips to show my confidence, withstand high pressure and be friendly. As for the answer, the more I practice, the better my answer will be. more fluent and natural.

Before the interview, I went online and selected 10 basic interview questions to practice and returned by phone several times to be more comfortable. And especially, for the last question: ‘Do you have any more questions for us?’, make sure you have prepared 2-3 questions for them that are related to the company’s culture. is about the interviewer.

At the end of interview 2, I asked the interviewer ‘If you could go back to your age, what advice would you give yourself?’ – And he was very excited to answer that question!”, Excited to tell.
