Microsoft Edge overtakes Safari to become the world’s second most popular computer browser

However, Microsoft Edge is still far behind Google Chrome.

Microsoft Edge has overtaken Apple’s Safari to become the world’s second most popular computer browser, based on data provided by StatCounter.

According to data, Microsoft Edge is now used on 10.07% of computers worldwide, 0.46% higher than Safari, at 9.61%. Google Chrome is still leading, far ahead with 66.64% market share and Mozilla’s Firefox is in 4th place with 7.86%.

As the default browser on Windows 11, Edge’s popularity has grown in recent months. In February 2022, this browser showed signs of overtaking Safari when it was used on 9.54% of computers worldwide. As of January 2021, Safari still holds a 10.38% market share, showing a gradual decline in popularity over the past 14 months.

However, Safari’s 3rd position probably won’t be threatened by Firefox in the near future, because the browser’s market share is on a downward trend.

For mobile browsers, it’s a different story. In StatCounter data, Edge doesn’t even make it into the top six mobile browsers. Chrome still ranks first with 62.87%, Safari on iPhone and iPad takes 25.35% in second place, 20.65% higher than third place is Samsung Internet, with 4.9%.
