Phuong Mai brought home the first medal for Vietnam Sports at SEA Games 31

On the afternoon of May 8, the Diving event at the Water Sports Palace took place in two finals of the women’s one-meter softball singles and the men’s three-meter soft-ball doubles.

In the women’s 1m softball final, there were 8 athletes, including 2 Vietnamese representatives, Ngo Phuong Mai and Nguyen Phuong Anh.

Ngo Phuong Mai won the bronze medal in the women’s 1m soft bridge content

Phuong Mai got off to a good start when she got the highest score in round one with a score of 50.4 on difficulty 2.4. The advantage of the Vietnamese player did not last long before the impressive performance of the Malaysian champion Nur Dhabitah Sabri.

After 2 jumps Sabri rose to the top. Phuong Mai tried to increase the difficulty in the last 2 jumps to 2.4 and 2.5, but the test was not good. The 5th last jump, Phuong Mai reached 41.25 points. This result made her even drop to 3rd place with a total score of 224.

Previously, at the 30th SEA Games in 2019, Phuong Mai was the only Vietnamese female diving athlete to win a medal. She placed 3rd in the women’s 3m softball final.

Meanwhile, the first gold medal at SEA Games 31 was awarded to Nur Dhabitah Sabri of Malaysia with a score of 290.45. Compatriot Bong Qian Pin won silver with a total score of 230. In this content, teammate Nguyen Phuong Anh achieved a total score of 162.9 and ranked 6th.
