Information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that at the invitation of US President Joseph Robinette Biden Jr., Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will join the leaders of ASEAN countries to attend the Special Summit to celebrate the 45th anniversary of ASEAN relations – The United States in 2 days, May 12, 13, 2022 in Washington DC, USA.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will lead the Vietnamese delegation to visit and work in the US and the United Nations from May 11 to 17, 2022.

Currently, ASEAN and the US are rushing to complete the preparations for the ASEAN-US Special Summit on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations.

Expected main activities include: Leaders of ASEAN countries attend the Reception Party chaired by the US President on the evening of May 12 at the White House; Leaders of ASEAN countries and the US President attended the ASEAN-US Special Summit on the afternoon of May 13.

At the same time, within the framework of the Special Summit, it is expected that the leaders of ASEAN countries will attend a working lunch with the Vice President of the United States on May 13; Attending a working lunch with representatives of leaders of the US Congress on May 12; receive the US Cabinet Ministers; and meet leaders of large corporations and businesses in the US.

Currently, ASEAN and the US are exchanging and agreeing on the agenda of activities and meetings. It is expected that the leaders of ASEAN countries and the US President will jointly look back and evaluate the overall journey of the two sides’ partnership over the past 45 years and set out important orientations for the development of ASEAN-US relations in the future. In the coming time, at the same time, spend time discussing regional and international issues of mutual concern.
