The Philippines’ top swimmer, Luke Gebbie has had to leave SEA Games 31 after testing positive for Covid-19 shortly before arriving in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Gebbie, who is expected to bring home the gold medal for sport Philippines, is said to be one of 16 members of the swimming team to Hanoi. Gebbie won silver in the men’s 4 × 100 m freestyle relay at Tokyo 2020 and bronze in the 50 m freestyle in sea Games 2019.

The male swimmer also owns the national record in the 100 m freestyle (49.64 seconds) once set in the Tokyo qualifiers, along with the 50 m freestyle records (22.57 seconds) and 50 m butterfly (24.34 seconds) set at the SEA Games 3 years ago hosted by the country.
“Unfortunately he (Gebbie) tested positive. He is our hope to win gold at SEA Games 31”, President of the Olympic Committee Philippines (POC) Abraham Tolentino said on May 7.
According to the POC, 3 other Filipino kickboxing athletes initially tested positive but was negative after retesting early last week. The kickboxing team, led by members of the famous Lakay team, started competing at the 31st SEA Games on May 8.
