Ca Mau: More than 85 billion VND to carry out the TB diagnosis and treatment project

Ca Mau will implement the ACT5 project on diagnosis and treatment to eliminate tuberculosis in the area with a capital of over 85 billion VND.

On May 9, news from Ca Mau Department of Health said that it officially launched the ACT5 project on diagnosis and treatment, aiming to eradicate tuberculosis in the province in May 2022.

The ACT5 project is invested with more than 85 billion VND, deployed from 2022 – 2025. Specifically, the intervention phase takes place from May 2021 – May 2024 and the evaluation period from January 2024 – June 2025. It is expected that there will be about 165,000 beneficiaries who are people aged 5 years or older, living in 208 hamlets and hamlets (equivalent to about 78,000 people) in Ca Mau province and randomly selected.

It is known that the ACT5 project will carry out sampling for people right in the community (club/hamlet). Thereby, helping to improve the accessibility and participation rate, and improve the capacity of the grassroots health care in TB prevention. At the same time, it helps in early detection, treatment and reduction of TB incidence in the community, towards eradication tuberculosis in 2030.

Before that, in 2013 – 2018, the ACT3 project was implemented in Ca Mau. After 5 years of implementation, it has significantly reduced the TB incidence and gradually reduced the TB infection rate in the community in the province. According to the assessment, the TB incidence in the intervention group decreased by 44% when the ACT3 Project was implemented and ended.

The ACT5 project on universalizing diagnosis and treatment of latent TB is coordinated by the National and Provincial TB Program Ca Maufunded from the funds of Australian Government. This is a key project, contributing to the development of the national TB prevention strategy of Ca Mau province.
