Hot early summer, air conditioner workers pocket millions of silver every day
In the early summer days of this year, Nghe An is known as the “pan of fire” because of its high temperature range, from 37-39 degrees Celsius. In particular, there are places where the temperature reaches over 40 degrees Celsius. Hot sun and southwest wind blow dry day and night.
At these times, only the air conditioner can help people “cool off”. Therefore, at the beginning of the sunny season, the demand for installing air conditioners increases. The workers who do the installation of this equipment are also “more expensive”.
Mr. Hoang Van Hiep (born in 1978, born in Tan Ky district, Nghe An) went to Vinh city to rent a house, repair and install electronics and refrigeration. If other jobs are done all year round, installing air conditioners usually only takes place in the summer. Therefore, Mr. Hiep humorously called the job of installing air conditioners “making a whole year’s meal”.
“Only in the hot season will people install air conditioners, but in the remaining three seasons, they will play for a long time. Also in the dry season, when using air conditioners, customers will need to clean and maintain equipment. Working in the above conditions. In the sun, in the heat, but you have to work hard because one day’s income is sometimes equal to repairing electrical appliances for a whole week,” Hiep said.
Air conditioner installers usually do not work alone, but must have someone to help carry and support the machine. When requested, Mr. Hiep and his colleagues loaded the tool box, folding ladder and copper pipe onto the motorbike, the heavy car rolled slowly…
If the installation location is convenient, each day Mr. Hiep and his colleagues can install 6-8 sets of air conditioners for guests. With a salary of 360,000 VND/set, each person can earn approximately 1.5 million VND/day. However, such days can only be counted on the fingers and workers also have to work hard from morning to night. On average, a group of 2 people can install 3-5 sets of air conditioners per day.
Compared to Mr. Hiep, Nguyen Huu Uyen (SN 1996, hometown of Thanh Chuong, Nghe An) has a younger age, less professional age, but because she is young, strong and has more technical experience, Uyen often takes on the task of directly installing in on high.
“It’s impossible to do this job without fear of heights. Previously, when apartment buildings allowed the installation of outdoor air conditioners, each time they had to be installed, they had to hang on a rope ladder, then carry the machinery, and had to be nervous. Now, for the sake of safety and aesthetics, high-rise apartment buildings require the installation of air conditioners inside, which is less risky,” just measured Uyen, who installed an iron rack outside a house. home, just said.
Finishing the rack, Uyen carried the air conditioner on his shoulder, held on to the ladder, and climbed up. Below, the colleague had to keep the ladder stable due to the weak ground even though it was lined with bricks.
After about 2 hours, the installation of the new air conditioner was completed, Mr. Uyen turned on the air conditioner for the owner to check the operation. Although the owner asked to clean the old air conditioner, he had to refuse because he had another job, and because he didn’t book in advance, there was no cleaning equipment available. If he received this job, he could earn an additional 120,000 VND/set.
In the summer, at the peak of the heat, Mr. Hiep and Mr. Uyen’s jobs are more frequent, which means higher income. Therefore, air conditioner installers often take advantage of the time to do it, even though it is harder and more tiring. “Exposure to the sun is also familiar, there are times when you have to work through noon, but you have to try to finish it because you have already “got up to the spear”,” said Uyen.
Usually, on hot days, wages do not increase significantly, perhaps the landlord provides additional training for workers. However, with or without this compensation, installers must work carefully and thoughtfully to build a lasting reputation.
The installer’s obsession is not the extreme weather, but the location to work. The more convenient the location, the safer the job, the faster the work progress, the more “superior” income.
However, in high-rise buildings or unfavorable locations, it takes more time and is also more dangerous for workers. Even in some cases, the time for protection work takes an entire day, not to mention the installation of machinery. At such times, the worker must skillfully advise the homeowner to provide additional training in addition to the installation fee as prescribed.
“In doing this job, in addition to the technical skill, hard work and passion, safety must come first. All subjectivity has to be paid with your own health and life, so when shaking hands When it comes to work, you have to calculate each option to ensure the safest,” said Mr. Hoang Van Hiep.
