Previously, at the first instance session, the People’s Court of Ho Chi Minh City sentenced defendant Tat Thanh Cang to 10 years in prison for the crime of “violating regulations on management and use of State assets, causing losses and waste”. After the first-instance hearing, Mr. Tat Thanh Cang filed an appeal, requesting a review of the first-instance judgment, because the defendant disagreed with the accusations of the People’s Procuracy of Ho Chi Minh City.

Defendant Te Tri Dung (former General Director of Tan Thuan Industrial Development Company Limited – IPC) was sentenced to 11 years in prison for “violating regulations on management and use of state assets, causing loss and waste.” ; 9 years in prison for the crime of “Embezzlement of property”. The total penalty for both crimes is 20 years in prison.

Defendant Ho Thi Thanh Phuc (former General Director of Sadeco) was sentenced to 9 years in prison for the crime of “violating regulations on management and use of State assets, causing loss and waste”; 7 years in prison for “Embezzlement of property”. The total penalty for both crimes is 16 years in prison.

The other defendants were also sentenced to between two years in prison and up to 13 years in prison.

After the first-instance hearing, defendant Te Tri Dung and the remaining eight accomplices also appealed for a reduction of the punishment or a review of the crime.

SADECO Company’s side proposed the appellate court to charge defendants Te Tri Dung and Ho Thi Thanh Phuc (former General Director of SADECO) and accomplices to pay 2.8 billion VND, cancel the certificate of business registration for the second time. 13 by SADECO.

Sadeco requested Ho Chi Minh City Department of Planning and Investment to carry out procedures for re-granting the business registration certificate to Saigon South Development Joint Stock Company with a registered charter capital of 170 billion VND.
