Porsche Taycan has a seat adjustment error that damages the airbag

AmericaElectric vehicles that fail to adjust the seats can damage the wiring and lead to failure of other systems, including the airbags.

According to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), there are 9,570 Taycan vehicles manufactured between October 2, 2019 and May 18, 2021 with this problem. Specifically, when adjusting the seat in the front row (driver or passenger seat) in the forward/backward direction, the fabric wrapped around the power cord assembly in the seat will get wrapped around the seat adjuster, possibly causing the wire to be damaged.

This bundle is linked to many other systems, including airbags. So there is a big risk that the airbag will malfunction or stop working. The vehicle owner can recognize this error when the red error light is displayed on the meter.

The German automaker fixed it for free by applying extra cloth tape to fix the wires under the seat and prevent any damage that might occur during the adjustment process.

Porsche says no injuries have been reported due to the defect. The company has informed customers of its plan to recall vehicles from June 24 at genuine dealers.

In Vietnam, the company has not announced anything, and it is not clear whether imported cars are affected by this error.
