The Chinese screen is about to disappear on the iPhone

According to industry sources, the BOE partner may have arbitrarily changed the component parameters, violating the agreement with Apple.

According to TheElec, since February until now, the amount of OLED panels for the 6.1-inch iPhone model produced by BOE has decreased sharply. The original reason was the lack of supply of the display driver IC. BOE purchased the component from LX Semicon, which is selling the same component to LG Display.

However, the source of TheElec that’s not the reason for BOE’s iPhone screen-to-body ratio drop so drastically. Most likely, the Chinese manufacturer has arbitrarily changed the panel design, such as making the transistor circuit board thinner, and that was discovered by Apple.

This could lead to Apple asking BOE to stop producing iPhone screens. In addition, it is not excluded that the Cupertino giant wants to withdraw the OLED display supply chain from China to proactively supply.

Currently, BOE’s B11 factory in Sichuan (China) is still in operation. TheELec believes that Apple should continue to cooperate with this supplier to put pressure on Samsung Display and LG Display, forcing them to reduce the selling price of components.

Earlier this year, at its financial statement meeting, Samsung Display said it would use patent rights to protect its OLED panel business. The company is currently the largest supplier of OLED displays to Apple.

Samsung Display is the first company to provide OLED screen panels for phones on a commercial scale and leads in the number of patents related to pixel structure, touch electrodes.

Recently, there are more and more signs that Apple wants to gradually reduce its dependence on production lines in China.

According to Economic TimesPegatron, one of Apple’s largest outsourcing partners, is about to open its first iPhone factory in India.

This will be the third iPhone factory to be opened in South Asia’s largest country within the past 5 years, after branches of Wistron and Foxconn. India is also the only country outside of China with an iPhone assembly plant.

Currently, China is still considered “the world’s iPhone factory”. Most iPhone assembly plants are located here. However, in recent years, the trade relationship between China and the US, where Apple is headquartered, has deteriorated.
