The President of the European Council had to take cover during a meeting in the southern port city of Odessa, Ukraine, due to the incoming Russian missile.
The President of the European Council (EC) Charles Michel today made a surprise visit to the strategic port city of Odessa in the south. Ukraine and met Prime Minister Denys Shmygal. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also joined the meeting via videoconference, expressing “please that the EU shows support for Ukraine at the highest level”.

“The meeting was interrupted because the officials in attendance had to take cover when the missile hit the Odessa area. They continued the meeting in the shelter,” the European Union (EU) official said, adding that Mr. Michel visited the seaport in the city and “witnessed firsthand the impact of conflict on the global supply chain”.
Department of Defense Russia Has not commented on this information yet.
Odessa is the city that owns the largest strategic seaport of Ukraine in the Black Sea, with a population of about one million. This used to be a relatively peaceful place when Russia launched its military campaign in Ukraine and was a shelter for displaced Ukrainians from other regions.
The city of Odessa has been under constant air attacks by Russian forces in recent times. The Russian Defense Ministry last week confirmed the destruction of a newly built military airstrip in the city and hit a weapons gathering area sent by the US and its allies to Ukraine.
The city is still blockaded from the sea by the Russian Navy’s Black Sea Fleet. The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) on May 6 called on all parties to reopen the seaport in Odessa to ensure global food security.
