Apple silicon has a new security hole-Information Technology

Monday, May 9, 2022 08:25 AM (GMT+7)

Recently, researchers from the University of Illinois, Tel Aviv University and the University of Washington discovered a new security flaw in Apple silicon chips.

According to Tom’s Hardware, the Augry security flaw can make iPhone, iPad, and MacBook users vulnerable to attacks.

Normally, memory access is limited and fragmented to increase system security, but the DMP feature of Apple can bypass the limitation, and Augry took advantage of this vulnerability, allowing attackers to take control of data “at rest”.

The researchers say that the Augury vulnerability affects devices using Apple’s A14 processor (4th generation iPad Air, iPhone 12 series, etc.), M1 and M1 Max.

Other Apple SoCs such as the M1 Pro and M1 Ultra are likely to also contain the vulnerability, although researchers have so far only successfully demonstrated the existence of this vulnerability on the M1 Max.

Currently, Apple is aware of the existence of the vulnerability and is planning to fix it.
