The most beautiful woman in China has just passed away

Actress Qin Di, one of the beauty icons of Chinese cinema, who was once praised by the late Prime Minister Zhou Enlai as “the most beautiful woman in China” has died at the age of 100.

Actress Qin Di died at a hospital in Shanghai at 4:08 am on May 9. She just celebrated her 100th birthday in February. In the last years of her life, Qin Di often lived in the hospital due to her old age and weakness.

Qin Di was praised for her elegant beauty, and participated in a series of plays early in her artistic career.

After World War II, she returned to Shanghai, starring in “The Loyal Family” and this was her first film role. After that, she participated in a series of other films: “Railway Guerrillas”, “Woman Basketball Player No. 5”, “Lin Zexu”, “Song of the Youth”,… Her name resounded on the Chinese screen in throughout the 1950s and 1960s.

Life continued to challenge Qin Di when she was diagnosed with colorectal cancer and had to undergo surgery. At the same time, her husband Kim Diem was bedridden. She has to take care of her husband and children while supporting the family’s finances. Her husband and son both passed away.

Despite being ill, Kim Tiep has a talent for painting. At a 2002 charity auction in Shanghai, Arnold Schwarzenegger bought one of Kim Tiep’s paintings for $25,000. The actor praised Qin Di for her devotion to her son. Qin Di had saved 200,000 yuan to take care of her son, but when Kim Tiep died in 2007, she donated all of the money to the Sichuan earthquake victims in 2008.
