Kherson region of Ukraine wants to merge with Russia
The newly appointed leadership in Ukraine’s Kherson region said it plans to ask Russian President Vladimir Putin to let Kherson become part of the Russian Federation.
CNN and The Guardian quoted Kirill Stremousov, deputy head of the military-civilian government in Kherson as saying: “Kherson officials will recommend to Russian President Putin that Kherson become a full subject of the Federation. Russia”. And that, Kherson will be fully governed under Russian law by the end of this year.
Last weekend, Mr. Stremousov said, citizens residing in the Kherson region will have the right to acquire Russian citizenship. “We are not planning to hold referendums and plan to create republics. Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to Ukrainian President Zelensky reacted shortly after Kherson’s new official’s announcement was made. “The invaders can ask to enter Mars or Jupiter. The Ukrainian army will free Kherson, no matter what game they play.”
Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Kherson people have the right to decide whether they want to join Russia and this decision must have a clear legal basis.
