In October 2020, 24-year-old Singaporean girl – Charlene Chew was involved in an oil-burning accident while frying bread with her boyfriend at their apartment in Melbourne, Australia.
After being taken to the hospital, the doctor said that not only was Charlene’s face disfigured, but her nerves were also severely damaged. Almost half of the face seemed to “melt” under the heat of the oil. However, she is still very lucky that her eyes are not affected.

“I felt like I was stripped of my identity. At that time even I couldn’t recognize myself when I looked in the mirror. It was scary!”, Charlene shared.
After the accident, Charlene was brought back to Singapore by her family for further treatment. During that time, the Singaporean girl often had to wear a mask and special clothes so that the deep scars could heal. This mask helps to shape the face and its tight pressure keeps the skin flat again.

Nearly two years on from the accident, Charlene believes she has recovered about 60 percent. In the photos she shared on her personal page, it can be seen that her face is already beautiful, radiant and her body is much stronger. No one believed that she had suffered a lot before with a disfigured face and ugly scarred body.
Charlene can now be more confident when appearing in front of people and becoming an inspirational figure through social networks about the will to never give up before a cruel fate.
