On the afternoon of May 10, the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment, the Ministry of Health and Roche Pharma Vietnam signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate in implementing the Program “Live Longer Liver Cancer Management in Vietnam 2022-2023”. , aiming to support raising awareness about liver cancer, contributing to optimizing diagnosis and increasing the effectiveness of liver cancer treatment in Vietnam.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Truong Son said that in order to prevent and control cancer and non-communicable diseases in general, the Prime Minister signed and promulgated Decision No. 376/QD-TTg on the National Strategy for the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases for the period 2015-2025;
Decision No. 155/QD-TTg approving the National Plan for prevention and control of non-communicable diseases and mental health disorders for the period 2022 – 2025.
The overall goal of the Plan is to strengthen the control of risk factors for the disease, promote prevention measures, early detection and treatment management to limit the increase in the proportion of people with pre-existing diseases, contracting the disease. , disability and premature death from non-communicable diseases, including cancer in general and liver cancer in particular. , departments, mass organizations, social organizations, the health system and the whole society”- the Deputy Minister of Health stated.
The Deputy Minister of Health highly appreciated the initiative to implement “Liver Cancer Management Program – Live Longer” in Vietnam for the period of 2022 -2023. At the same time, it is expected that the Program will achieve its objectives and content, contributing to raising community awareness so that people can proactively prevent and control diseases; support the establishment of clinical practice centers in the early detection, diagnosis, treatment and management of liver cancer.
Liver Cancer Management Program – Live Longer is implemented with the following objectives: Support to increase awareness about liver cancer for the general public including people at high risk (medium term) and the general population (long term). ). Contributing to improving the efficiency of liver cancer diagnosis and treatment for health facilities includes: improving the capacity of the health system from screening, diagnosis to treatment; policies to support professional activities such as guidance on treatment of liver cancer; develop criteria to operate and evaluate the effectiveness of multi-modality activities. Enhance access to systemic treatment for liver cancer patients with advanced treatments.
At the signing ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Luong Ngoc Khue – Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment, Ministry of Health, said that liver cancer is the leading cancer in Vietnam, in which 90% of liver cancers are cancers. hepatocellular carcinoma. According to Globocan 2020, the new incidence of liver cancer is 26,418 cases per year, accounting for 14.5% of all cancers and 77% of liver cancer cases in men. Liver cancer is also the cancer with the leading number of deaths with 25,272 cases, accounting for 21% of the total number of cancer deaths, 3.8 times more than the total number of traffic accident deaths in 2020 (6,700 cases). .
