Specifically, the 34th SEA Games in 2027 will be hosted by Malaysia instead of Brunei requesting to withdraw. Which city this tournament is held in will be decided by Malaysia.

Previously, Malaysia has hosted the SEA Games 6 times in 1965, 1971, 1977, 1989, 2001 and the last time in 2017 but this country has never hosted the ASIAD. In the previous 6 times, the congress took place only in Kuala Lumpur and surrounding cities.

SNOC Chairman Tan Chuan-Jin said at a meeting in Hanoi on May 12: “We are delighted to be reorganizing the prestigious regional sporting event in Singapore. The SEA Games preserves memories and experiences that are special to Singapore and its Southeast Asian neighbors.”
