Paint spraying robots open the door to affordable car personalization

The technology above is called PixelPaint, which allows robot faithful reproduction in just 30 minutes a work of art.

The system consists of a closed chamber that uses a robot to cover the target location with paint. The breakthrough point of this technology is the integration of a high DPI inkjet printhead, allowing paint to be printed directly onto the surface using a printhead instead of a standard nozzle.

The robot has 1,000 nozzles in the paint head to ensure that 100% of the paint is applied to the car without misting in the air.

The technology has won the prestigious Robotics Award 2021, an award that recognizes innovation in automation processes.

The system is currently being tested by major European car manufacturers. In the future, the system could open the door for affordable car personalization.
