In his address to a large number of guests at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, D.C., the Prime Minister said he was pleased to see the two countries’ relations between Vietnam and the United States have developed dramatically after nearly three years. decade of normalizing relations.

That relationship has “bearing fruit” with the efforts of both sides with sincerity, trust and responsibility, with understanding, sharing and mutual respect to achieve the goals of the two countries, the two peoples and peoples of the two countries aspire to and towards.

According to the Prime Minister, the two sides have overcome their differences and achieved the fundamental principles for the relationship between the two countries, as affirmed in the Declaration on the Vietnam-US Joint Vision when General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong visited the United States. official US government in 2015, which emphasizes respect for each other’s “political institutions, independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity”.

The Prime Minister emphasized that Vietnam appreciates that over the years the US has always supported a strong and independent Vietnam. In the 27 years since the two countries normalized their relations, there have been four consecutive US visits to Vietnam by four US presidents and left a good impression on the people of the two countries.

Since the beginning of President Joe Biden’s term, many senior US officials have visited Vietnam at the difficult time of the peak of the COVID-19 epidemic in 2021, including Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.

According to the Prime Minister, just a few years ago, few people would have expected more than 6 million people to die from the COVID-19 pandemic and few could have imagined the conflict in the heart of Europe, causing devastating consequences for the world. enormous implications for the global security, political, economic and social situation.

“Vietnam does not choose sides but chooses justice”

In his speech, the Prime Minister said that sincerity, trust and responsibility are especially important to solve the problems facing the world today. “Therefore, more than ever, we need to accelerate the construction and consolidation of sincerity and trust among countries.
