Russia sanctions 31 US, EU, Singapore energy companies

The sanctions also affect Poland’s EuRoPol GAZ SA, which owns the Polish share of the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline system. Russia’s sanctions list includes Gazprom Schweiz AG, Gazprom Marketing & Trading USA Inc, Vemex, Wingas.

Associated TASS reported that within the framework of the sanctions, the companies on the list are banned from trading. Ships linked to these companies are also banned from entering Russian ports.

After Russia announced the sanctions, the German Economy and Environmental Protection Minister said on May 11 that the government was “making the necessary arrangements and preparing for different scenarios”.

The ministry said: “The gas crisis team is closely monitoring the situation. At this time, supply security is still guaranteed and continuously monitored.”

In response to Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine, the US and the West have imposed heavy sanctions on Moscow and its oligarchs. In response, Russia cut off gas supplies to Poland and Bulgaria, demanding a new payment mechanism for gas buyers in Europe.

On the Ukrainian side, the country’s gas officials said that Russia bears full responsibility for reducing the flow of Russian gas to Europe through Ukraine.

The head of Ukraine’s gas transit operator said Ukraine was never the cause of the transit shutdown, and blamed the reduction in gas flows on Russian forces.

According to TASSon March 31, Gazprom Group withdrew its capital from Gazprom Export Business Services LLC, thereby terminating its participation in Gazprom Germania GmbH and all its assets, including Gazprom Marketing & Trading Ltd.

On April 4, the German Economy Ministry announced the transfer of Gazprom Germania GmbH to the temporary trust management of the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) until September 30.

Gazprom Germania GmbH is a subsidiary of Gazprom Export (part of Gazprom). The company sells fuel and has a network of gas filling stations in Germany, with several projects in Serbia, Austria and the Czech Republic.
