The Prime Minister is about to speak at the American think tank

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is about to speak at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, D.C. at dawn on May 12.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will make comments on the current and future Vietnam-US relations, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) said when announcing that Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh would give a speech. spoke at 15:00 on 11/5 (2h on 12/5 Hanoi time).

This is the Prime Minister’s first speech during his visit to the US, ahead of the ASEAN-US Special Summit.

“Vietnam is an important partner of the US in the Indo-Pacific. The two countries’ strong relationship continues to be maintained through mutual respect, cooperation and a shared vision of an Indian Ocean. – The Pacific is free and open,” commented CSIS.

CSIS is a leading strategic research and academic center in the US as well as around the world, with the goal of enhancing dialogue and understanding among politicians, scholars and people of different countries. CSIS also plays an important role in raising awareness about issues related to security, peace, stability and prosperity around the world.

Former President Truong Tan Sang in 2013 spoke at CSIS, emphasizing the promotion of Vietnam – US relations in the dynamic and prosperous Asia – Pacific region.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in 2015 also visited and talked at CSIS and spoke on issues related to Vietnam – US cooperation in the new development phase.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is leading a Vietnamese delegation to visit and work in the US on May 11-17. On May 12-13, the Prime Minister will attend the ASEAN-US Special Summit in Washington. The Prime Minister is also expected to visit and work with United Nations leaders in New York, meet a number of American partners and investors in Vietnam and talk with overseas Vietnamese.

Vietnam – US relations have developed and achieved many achievements over the years. The two countries established a comprehensive partnership in 2013 and the US announced the complete lifting of the arms embargo against Vietnam in 2016.

The US is Vietnam’s largest export market, and Vietnam is the US’s ninth largest trading partner. Bilateral turnover in 2021 will reach more than 111.56 billion USD. By March, US direct investment in Vietnam reached 10.3 billion USD, ranking 11th out of 141 countries and territories with FDI in Vietnam, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In March 2018, the US aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson arrived in Da Nang, marking the first time a US aircraft carrier visited Vietnam in more than 40 years. The US in 2017 and 2021 transferred two patrol boat Hamilton class for Vietnam and is ready to transfer a third ship as part of its commitment to help Vietnam increase its maritime security capacity.
