Winning the Philippines, coach Mai Duc Chung explained the reason why his students had cramps

“The Philippine women’s team considers the Vietnamese women’s team like children”

In the match tonight (May 11), the Vietnamese women’s team came back to beat the Philippines 2-1. Pulling from the end of the first half to the beginning of the second half, many Vietnamese female players had cramps and left the field on stretchers. Bich Thuy and Duong Thi Van were unable to continue playing. Tuyet Dung, Huynh Nhu were in pain but tried to play all 90 minutes with their teammates to win 3 important points on the journey to defend the SEA Games gold medal.

Responding to the press after the match, coach Mai Duc Chung said: “Today, the Vietnamese women’s team played a bit erroneously for the first 10 minutes. The Philippines probably considers us as children, so they pushed the squad up high. Press hard, play high, physical. If I were them, I would choose to play the same way and in fact, we lost by 1 goal.

But after that, my students showed great will to compete to win back. Playing against an opponent like such a European team takes a lot of energy and some players get cramps.”

When the reporter questioned whether the absence of midfielder Thai Thi Thao due to injury had a lot to do with the strength of the Vietnamese women’s team on the journey to defend the SEA Games gold medal? Coach Mai Duc Chung shared: “Thai Thi Thao is an important player, but football always changes and inherits. The Vietnamese women’s team today also has many good players. Duong Thi Van kicks the ball today. Thai Thi Thao also completed the task well.”

According to the sharing line, coach Mai Duc Chung expressed that he was not worried when the Vietnamese women’s team was leading: “During the break, I remind our students that we still have 45 minutes of the second half and nothing. Just hold the ball firmly, deploy the attack and whatever comes will come.

The Philippine women’s team has a really good body, but we have also been facilitated by the VFF to train abroad, and meet people with very good bodies from Germany and Korea, so there is nothing to be afraid of.”

In closing, coach Mai Duc Chung emphasized: “This is the first match at the 31st SEA Games. We will quickly forget this match, focus on the next matches against Cambodia on May 14.

The players must concentrate as much as possible to complete the task.”
