Baseball autographed by Mr. Zelensky for $50,000

President Volodymyr Zelensky signed the white ball in both Ukrainian and English during a visit to New York in 2019. His signature is located just below the logo of Major League Baseball of America.
RR Auction, an auction house in Boston, USA, on May 12 said the winner paid more than $ 50,000 to own the baseball. It was accompanied by a letter signed by Volodymyr Yelchenko, Ukraine’s ambassador to the United Nations in 2019.

The seller, Randy Kaplan, was given the ball by Yelchenko. Kaplan has been collecting baseballs signed by world-famous leaders for nearly 30 years, and he rarely sells these rare items.
RR Auction will donate the $15,000 divided after the auction to support Ukrainians displaced by the conflict. Kaplan also donated a portion to the global non-profit organization Americares to help the people of Ukraine, but did not give a specific number.
The new owner of the ball, who wished to remain anonymous, was described as a “midwestern American collector who is delighted that part of the auction proceeds will be used to help the people of Ukraine”.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said that more than 8 million people, or nearly a fifth of Ukraine’s population, had been displaced because of the fighting, of which more than 6 million Ukrainians fled the country.
