At the invitation of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense, Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto led a high-ranking delegation of the Indonesian Defense Ministry to pay an official visit to Vietnam from May 12-14.

This is the first visit to Vietnam by the Indonesian Defense Minister since taking office in October 2019.

After the welcoming ceremony, there was a meeting between the defense ministers of the two countries. The two ministers assessed that defense cooperation between Vietnam and Indonesia has been promoted by both sides in recent years, achieving many positive results.

On the basis of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Governments of the two countries on strengthening cooperation between defense officials and related activities signed in 2010 and the declaration of a common vision between the two Defense Ministries on defense cooperation in the next period. From 2017 to 2022, the two sides have effectively coordinated to organize many cooperation contents such as dialogue, consultation, delegation exchange, training, navy, coast guard, cooperation between research institutes, cooperation in the world. multilateral forums…

In particular, from the end of 2019 up to now, although the COVID-19 pandemic has affected and affected the implementation of cooperation contents, in general, defense cooperation between the two countries has continued to be of interest and promotion. push, achieve some practical results.

Prominent is maintaining mechanisms for dialogue and cooperation in the form of online; signing cooperation documents between navies and coast guards of the two countries; staff training cooperation.

In the coming time, Minister Phan Van Giang and Minister Prabowo Subianto agreed to continue effectively implementing cooperation contents on the basis of defense cooperation documents approved by the Governments and Ministry of Defense of the two countries. signed.
