In 2020, Jocelyn Yow – a girl of Vietnamese origin has made an extremely admirable feat when becoming the youngest black woman to hold the position of mayor in California, USA. Results announced by Eastvale City Council, Jocelyn Yow has become the mayor of a city of more than 73,000 people in Riverside County.
Jocelyn Yow (25 years old), she has a Vietnamese mother and a Malaysian father. She settled in Eastvale in 2011, after a long process of learning and proving, Jocelyn Yow became the mayor of this city.
Jocelyn Yow became the youngest black woman ever to serve as mayor of a California city.
According to the city of Eastvale’s website, Yow is a graduate of Norco Community College and the University of California – Berkeley. She then studied for a master’s degree in government at Harvard University’s extension.
Although only 25 years old, Jocelyn Yow has served as local representative of the California State Senate and assistant in the US House of Representatives. In addition, she is also the policy director of IGNITE, a non-profit organization that advocates for more women to be elected to key government positions.
