Prime Minister Hun Sen: Cambodia does not choose between the US or China

Prime Minister Hun Sen made the statement in Washington DC on May 12, when he met nearly 2,000 Cambodians living in the US and Canada, according to the newspaper. Khmer Times today 13.05. Mr. Hun Sen is on a visit to the US to attend the ASEAN-US Special Summit, which will take place from May 12 to 13 (US time).

Prime Minister Hun Sen said that at first the US opened its embassy in Cambodia in a rented building, and now, the US has built the embassy building in the best location in the Cambodian capital.

On the other hand, Mr. Hun Sen repeated policy Cambodia’s diplomacy is not to choose between America, China or any other country, which wants to be friends with all and cooperate with all nations. “We don’t need to choose between China, the US or Thailand… We don’t make such a choice. Cambodia’s foreign policy is in line with ASEAN,” emphasized Mr. Hun Sen.

Prime Minister Hun Sen also emphasized Cambodia can support any initiative within the Indo-Pacific or Asia-Pacific framework, but it must be based on three principles. The first is to serve peace and development in the region; second is not against any country; and the third is to respect the unity, solidarity and neutrality of ASEAN.
