Kelly Lunney, 37, a woman from Lancashire, England was shocked when she first spotted a rare pink pigeon perched in her back garden.

The woman noticed a strangely colored pigeon flying with the flock and swooping down to her garden. The bird that stood out in the flock was easy to spot, but Kelly Lunney couldn’t believe what she was seeing. She felt like she was hallucinating.

Kelly Lunney took out her phone to take a photo and record a moving video of the pink pigeon.

She said: “At first I did not believe what I saw before my eyes. The pink bird was quite strange. I took my mother outside to have a look together. I took a picture and used Google to check. My mother also said she had never seen a pink dove in all her life.”

The pink bird and the pigeons returned a few hours after she first saw it. At about 7 or 8 at night, the pink bird appeared again.

After sharing the video on social networks, Kelly Lunney received much attention from netizens. Some argue that this is a common pigeon and has been dyed pink. However, Kelly Lunney and a few friends believe that the pink color is its true plumage, a pink bird native to the island of Mauritius. “It’s got a bit of white under its wings so I think it’s naturally pink,” she said.

In the world, there is only pink pigeon, scientific name is nesoenas mayeri, living on the island of Mauritis, Indian Ocean. They are extremely rare and are rarely found in other parts of the world.

According to statistics, there are only about 500 pink pigeons in the world, they have pink breast and back, gray tail and dark pink bill.

Kelly Lunney knew she was lucky to see one of the rarest types of pigeons in the world. “In 60 years of my life my mother has never seen pink pigeons. My neighbors also see them, they feed them. I think this is a great opportunity for mother and daughter,” she shared.
