From those examples, voter Hung suggested that the National Assembly pay attention, take Literature, Mathematics and History as compulsory subjects, but cannot consider History as an elective subject.

According to Mr. Hung, this subject should be a traditional subject, the foundation for students to form their personality, outlook on life, patriotism and a sense of national construction and defense.

“Basically renovating the cause of education is right, but it is not possible for History to be elective, instead we should change the way we teach and learn to attract children more interested,” this voter added. .

Discussing issues of concern to voters, Politburo member and Standing Committee of the Secretariat Vo Van Thuong said that recently, public opinion has been concerned and confused about the subject of History.

Mr. Vo Van Thuong said that he had asked the cadres in the Culture-Education Committee – the National Assembly to re-systematize the number of periods and time, study History under the new program with the old program to see how the difference was. .

Accordingly, research documents show that if students follow the direction of not choosing History as a compulsory subject in the high school program, the number of teaching hours for this subject is still 71 more periods than in the old program. As for the elective History subject, the number of lessons is more than 176. In addition, the new educational program also includes other subjects such as National Defense and Security, National Defense and a local subject that is also related to History.

According to Mr. Thuong, the high school education in other countries has been streamed and has a very deep career orientation. Therefore, at the lower secondary school level, it is necessary to deal with the content of the History subject.

Whether this subject is compulsory at the high school level or not, the content of History education is relatively large. The problem here is that the misleading expression that we will drop History at the high school level makes people nervous.
