The first lecture by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Dinh Van Trung – Director of the Institute of Physics, director of the International Center for Physics – presented.

Assoc. Trung showed that the air environment around us including gases and suspended particles such as dust or aerosols has always been a concern of the community, especially in big cities. The assessment of air quality requires making highly accurate measurements of the density and distribution of these air or dust components.

Some modern physical methods are described and analyzed in detail in his lectures, including: spectroscopic methods for in situ measurement or remote sensing of polluting gases such as NOx, Ozone…; Laser scattering method to determine the density and size distribution of dust particles. Thereby, the lecture emphasized the important role of Physics in assessing the quality of the living environment around us and its contributions to the process of sustainable development.

The second lecture by Prof. TSKH. Dinh Nho Hao – Chairman of the Science Council, Institute of Mathematics.

He takes listeners on a tour of the world of inverse math from the time of Plato (4th century BC) when slaves past silhouettes on the walls of caves, conjecture about what happened in the outside world. ; Eratosthenes (3rd century BC) measured the circumference of the earth; from Newton’s discovery of the law of universal gravitation based on Kepler’s three laws of the motion of celestial bodies, to finding minerals, anti-personnel mines, tomography… and even a very trendy issue – Machine Learning (Machine Learning).

Although inverse problems are everywhere, but Professor Hao said that the study of inverse problems is often difficult, due to the high nonlinearity, and especially due to the misalignment – ​​the phenomenon of “one inch wrong, go a mile”.

Professor Hao gave a few simple illustrative examples to show how to overcome these difficulties of the inverse problem.

According to Associate Professor Tran Dinh Phong, finding alternative energy sources to fossil energy plays an important role in achieving the goals of sustainable economic development and environmental protection.

Solar energy is the largest renewable energy source that humans can harness. However, solar energy is unevenly distributed by geographical location, varying by season and by time of day. Therefore, it is necessary to develop technologies that allow efficient conversion of solar energy into other forms of energy, efficient storage in energy-carrying substances/components so that it can be actively allocated and used. use according to need. Hydrogen is one such energy carrier.

Assoc. Phong also discussed some progress of the scientific community in the research and development of photoelectrochemical devices (also known as Artificial Leaves) that allow generating hydrogen from only water and sunlight. He highlighted the technological challenges that need to be addressed in order to realize the competitiveness of hydrogen produced from water with hydrogen currently produced industrially from natural gas.

The fourth lecture was presented by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hoang Tri – Chairman of the National Committee of the Program ‘Human and Biosphere’.
