After 30 minutes of delivery, the doctor turned pale when he lifted the mother’s blanket

Pregnancy and childbirth are sacred duties that nature has bestowed on women. However, to be able to bring “little angels” to the world, mothers had to make many trade-offs from physical to mental. Even after the baby is born, the mother is still not out of danger when she can face death through complications after birth such as bleeding, infection, stillbirth, eclampsia…

This year, Tieu Phuong turns 30 and has a 4-year-old daughter. Seeing that her daughter often plays alone, plus the encouragement of relatives and friends, Tieu Phuong decided to invite her husband to have another child. In her heart, she wished that this child would be a boy to hold her husband and only child, he would not be able to find an excuse to find a son that his lover had an affair with.

Not long after, Tieu Phuong fulfilled her wish. Her whole pregnancy passed smoothly in the attentive care of her husband’s parents and husband. Moreover, the mother-in-law is extremely worried about her true grandchild, so every time she comes to the antenatal check-up, she tells her son to take his wife to be examined carefully.

At the 30th week of pregnancy, the doctor concluded that Tieu Phuong had iron deficiency anemia – a common condition in most pregnant women. Therefore, she was asked to take more supplements, especially iron pills.

One morning in week 39, Tieu Phuong suddenly had severe stomach pain. The family quickly took the pregnant mother to the hospital to prepare to give birth. However, through the pain of childbirth one day and one night, she successfully gave birth to a plump and round son.

Half an hour after giving birth, Tieu Phuong suddenly said to the doctor: “I’m so cold! Can you increase the temperature of the air conditioner, please?”. Hearing that, the sweaty doctor lifted the woman’s blanket and then shouted to the nurse to inform the family and prepare the emergency room for surgery.

As it turned out, after giving birth, Tieu Phuong had postpartum hemorrhage. When the doctor lifted the blanket, he saw blood flowing profusely at the “door” of the pregnant woman. Fortunately, after 6 hours of surgery, she was out of danger. When he met his wife, Tieu Phuong’s husband hugged her with tears and said: “I’m sorry, I will never let you have children again. I almost lost you…”

How dangerous is postpartum haemorrhage?

Postpartum haemorrhage (also known as PPH) is a phenomenon in which a woman has a lot of bleeding after giving birth, about 1,000ml of blood. This is a serious condition that usually occurs within 1 day of giving birth. Although rare, it is the leading cause of maternal death worldwide.

Normally, after giving birth, the uterus will contract to push the placenta out. It will then continue to contract in order to stop bleeding where the placenta has sloughed off. However, if the mother has uterine atony, the uterus is too stretched due to the large baby or the labor time is too long, which will make the contraction force of the uterus weak, so the bleeding cannot be stopped. From there, blood rushes out, causing postpartum haemorrhage.

Postpartum haemorrhage is extremely dangerous, because if not treated promptly, it will cause hypovolemia leading to kidney failure, multi-organ failure and death. Therefore, postpartum care is an important issue, so mothers should cooperate and listen to the doctor. So that if a bad situation happens, the doctor will promptly save you.
