Close-up of a series of manholes in Thu Duc that has lost its cover for pedestrians
Stolen manhole covers become accident traps for pedestrians.
On May 14, as noted by a reporter of Traffic Newspaper, along To Huu Street (Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City), there were about 9 manhole covers stolen.
It is known that this road is the central lakeside road (R2) and a part of Saigon riverside road (R3) with a length of more than 3km in Thu Thiem new urban area.
This is a regular traffic road, especially near the empty land at the foot of Thu Thiem bridge, attracting many people to play and fly kites.
In the past few days, manholes have appeared on the road without a lid, without warning from the management agency.
Not only that, there are many manholes with tall grass that obscures the view of passersby.
People who often pass through this area can only use dry tree branches and planks to place temporary warnings in manholes.
According to residents, the loss of manhole covers occurs very often.
On To Huu Street at night was very quiet, so the crooks took advantage of this time to steal the manhole cover.
To protect the safety of pedestrians, people only have to find a board to cover themselves.
Garbage accumulates, floating under the manhole.
A person nearby said: “The manhole near my place lost its lid yesterday. Although warned by a tree branch, it is still very dangerous. People go to exercise in the early morning if they do not pay attention to the danger. The risk of entering the manhole is very high.”
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Kien, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Thu Thiem ward, ward leaders have grasped the situation and assigned it to the ward police to check.
The ward also suggested that the investor – Dai Quang Minh Company, have a plan to replace other manhole covers.
