LIV Hospitality Design Awards is a global award of Farmani Group (USA), to recognize excellence in the fields of hotel architecture, interior design and customer experience. Two years ago, Chicland hotel by VTN Architects was honored at this award.
In 2022, LIV Hospitality Design Awards continues to name another representative from Vietnam in the category of “Interior Design & Eating Space”. That restaurant is Chapter Dining & Grill, made by Tran Quang Trung Architects (Mars Architect).

Chapter Dining & Grill restaurant was voted by architects, designers, hotel owners and leading leaders in the fields of interior design and architecture as the winning project thanks to its design style and special experience space. .
Receiving this prestigious award, Tran Quang Trung – the main architect of Chapter Dining & Grill – is extremely happy and proud.
“As soon as the award was announced, I was very moved by the efforts of so many people in the project that were recognized. Located in the Old Quarter, Chapter Dining & Grill restaurant is located at 12B Chan Cam. This is a small street with a lot of French colonial architecture that gives it a charming beauty and full of life. It is also very convenient for traveling, when it is only 10 minutes walk from Hoan Kiem Lake and about 5 minutes walk from the Cathedral.
The motto of Chapter Dining & Grill’s culinary arts is creativity, sincerity and towards originality. Therefore, the restaurant’s design is used natural and rustic materials such as rusty iron plates or raw wood, monolithic lumpy stones, corten steel bent with many different shapes. Each time visiting this place, diners once again feel the “transformation” with many distinct hidden layers.
Architect Tran Quang Trung shared that the inspiration for him to design Chapter Dining & Grill was taken from the transformation in the use of fire, transforming from wood into charcoal and smoke. This is the image throughout the restaurant creating a contrast between hard and soft, hot and cold, dusty and luxurious.
Another unique feature of the restaurant is the focus on emotion, sincerity in service and flexibility in operation. Whether customers travel in groups, in pairs or alone, their experience must be perfect and consistent.
This is a difficult problem for the team of architects. Because, the change in interior arrangement in different cases still has to ensure the light, the service corridor and the general atmosphere of the restaurant.
“The restaurant space is renovated from a two-story space inside a run-down hotel. It is nestled on a long and narrow street with many important landmarks that attract a large number of domestic and foreign tourists. visit, that’s why we focus a lot on finding ideas for façade design.
Meanwhile, Chapter Dining & Grill’s dishes are oriented using fire in perfect control between coal, smoke and temperature to retain the full “original flavor” of the ingredients.
That helped us come up with a very unique idea: inspired by the smoky and always moving nature of the flame; while taking advantage of its dynamic point of view to arouse curiosity from passersby”. Architect Tran Quang Trung shared.
The facade is also the place where this architect is most interested in the design process. It portrays the creative and impressive personality of the restaurant, and at the same time shows the sophistication of human hands. With the idea of randomly bending the steel plates intentionally, the client will feel as if the building has movement every time they pass by.
“A lot of people, when passing Chan Cam Street, have entered the restaurant to visit and ask the staff ‘What is this’? This is the emotion that I nurture in the customer’s mind from the moment I walk in and even when I’m ready to go. finished the meal: Why is there? such design? Why is it? Can you do that by eating here?…”architect Tran Quang Trung said.
Of course, the process of designing the facade of this project was not easy. Mr. Trung and his associates had to carefully calculate, in order to ensure that the space has uniqueness and high aesthetics, as well as use materials with appropriate applicability.
