AFP reports the group’s foreign ministers G7consisting of 7 most industrialized countries, on May 14 announced that it will never recognize borders, but Russia trying to change in Ukraine.

“We will never recognize the borders that Russia has tried to change with military action, and we will maintain our support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, including the peninsula. Crimeaand of all other countries,” the G7 foreign ministers said in a statement after three days of discussions in northern Germany, which holds the G7’s rotating presidency.

The meeting was also attended by the foreign ministers of Ukraine and Moldova, as well as the High Representative of the European Union (EU) on Foreign and Security Policy. Josep Borrell.

In the joint statement, the countries also pledged to expand sanctions to areas on which Russia depends and to continue supplying weapons to Ukraine to help it counter Russia’s military campaign.

“We reaffirm our resolve to further increase economic and political pressure on Russia, continuing to act in a unified manner,” the statement said.

Western countries have supplied Ukraine with artillery, anti-aircraft missiles and anti-tank weapons, among other weapons. Borrell also said on May 13 that the EU had committed an additional half a billion euros in military aid to Ukraine. However, Kyiv is calling on allies to step up their support further.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on May 13 that he had asked the G7 to seize Russian assets and hand them over to Ukraine.

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock Canada is a leading country in implementing the measure, noting that Europe is bound by many different legal regulations.

“If we did, that measure would have to be done in accordance with our laws,” added Ms Baerbock.

Given the growing global impact of the conflict in Ukraine, ministers also warn China should not undermine sanctions on Moscow. The G7 also criticized Belarus for its stance in the conflict.

“We call on Belarus to stop facilitating Russia’s actions and to comply with its international obligations,” according to the G7 statement.
