Investigate building fire that killed 27 people in India

According to Indian officials, the two people arrested on suspicion of ignoring fire safety regulations.

Service fire house happened on the evening of May 13 (local time) at a 4-storey building near a train station in the west of the capital New Delhi. In this building, there is a surveillance camera production unit. It is estimated that more than 75 people were in the building when the fire broke out.

Indian authorities said the fire started on the first floor and quickly spread to the upper floors. Speaking to the press, New Delhi’s chief health officer Kumar Jain said: “The whole building was on fire. The fire was less serious in the basement but seriously burned from the 1st to the 3rd floor. All were burned down. The bodies of 27 people have been found.”

More than 30 fire crews were urgently dispatched to the scene of the incident building fire to control the situation. An ambulance also arrived at the scene of the fire to provide immediate medical assistance to the victims.

According to preliminary investigation results, this 4-storey building is known to be used as offices for many companies. Witnesses said some people jumped out of windows to avoid burns. Rescuers extinguished the fire while more than 40 burn victims were taken to hospital.

A representative of New Delhi’s fire department informed that the above building did not have an escape design when a fire occurred and most of the victims died from asphyxiation.

Indian police are conducting an investigation into this building fire.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent condolences to the families of the victims, and pledged to support 200,000 Rupees (about 2,500 USD) for the relatives of those who died.
