Initially, in 2020, Guo sued the airline to the Guangzhou Arbitration Commission. The commission considered that it was illegal for the airline to fire Guo, requiring the company to pay her salary between November 2019 and July 2020.

Not accepting the results, the company continued to take the case to the People’s Court of Baiyun District (Guangzhou), arguing that the flight attendant had not been allowed to rest while the flight was delayed.

However, the court still agreed with the arbitral tribunal’s original decision, saying that while Guo’s conduct was inappropriate, it was not serious enough for the company to fire her.

According to the court, Guo took the photo during a break and there was no evidence that her actions affected flight safety.

The court also said that immediately after posting the photo, Guo deleted and there was no evidence that her selfie was widely distributed, or caused economic damage to the airline.
