On the afternoon of May 14, a representative of the People’s Committee of Thu Thiem ward said that he had informed the investor and the police to investigate the loss of a series of manhole covers located on To Huu Street, Thu Thiem ward, in the past few days. The route that has lost its manhole cover is often crowded with pedestrians and cools in the evening.

The area of ​​the missing manhole cover is about a kilometer from Thu Thiem 2 bridge. The manhole covers are 1×2 m in size, located on the sidewalk about 10 m apart. Below is a tunnel more than 2m deep with a sewage system. There’s a drain with a lid that’s full of trash underneath.

Some sewers are covered with planks by people to avoid the risk of pedestrians falling. According to a worker of the project construction unit, it is possible that the manhole cover was stolen. In addition to temporary shielding, the remaining manhole covers are covered with concrete blocks to prevent them from being taken.

Mr. Nguyen The Minh, Head of Investment – Construction Management Board of Thu Thiem New Urban Area, said that the loss of manhole cover happened before, but not much. A series of caps have been lost since Thu Thiem Bridge 2 complete. Management will use spare manhole covers instead, if there is a shortage order more.

At the beginning of May, more than 40 garbage covers on Thu Thiem 2 bridge connecting District 1 with Thu Duc City, just inaugurated as well as stolen. Yesterday, the suspect who stole the aforementioned garbage covers was arrested by the police.

Thu Thiem new urban area is located near the center of District 1, with a scale of 930 hectares. Expected to be the most modern in Southeast Asia, but after 26 years of approval, the urban area has not developed as expected, many land lots are vacant, unfinished investment.
