Heart-stopping scene of a man holding a girl who is about to fall from an 8th floor window
The video captures the heart-stopping scene when a man catches a girl who is about to fall from an 8th floor window.
Sabit Shontakbaev, 37, was on her way to work with friends when she saw a crowd staring up at her, where a 3-year-old girl was hanging from an eighth-floor window.
Her mother went shopping and left her child alone at home in the Kazakh capital Nur-Sultan. The little girl stacked her own mattress and toys to climb out the window.
Sabit – a father of four – immediately climbed up near the 8th floor window to rescue the little girl. He ran inside the block, went up to the 7th floor, into the apartment directly below the girl’s apartment. “We knocked on the door and luckily, they opened the door right away,” he said.
Sabit had climbed out of the window, just below where the girl had held out for about 15 minutes. “I didn’t have a seat belt so my friend held me. At that moment, I couldn’t think of anything. I just want to help the child.”
Then, Sabit reached up, grabbed the girl’s leg and gradually hugged her whole body. He carefully handed the baby girl to his friend before climbing into the house. Sabit didn’t wait for her mother to come home to say thank you because he didn’t want to be late for work.
“I haven’t even met her parents. I went straight to work. But news sites and social media have called me a hero. I don’t consider my actions heroic.”
Sabit says, to him, people should help in such situations. Sabit was later commended by the mayor of the city Altai Kulginov for his act of bravery. The Deputy Minister of Emergencies also presented him with a medal for bravery.
He was also offered to do rescue work after this unexpected incident. Local newspapers reported that his family was also given a new three-bedroom apartment and a television. This will allow his wife and children to move in with him in Nur-Sultan. Currently, Sabit works in the capital and sends money to his wife to raise children in Kyzylorda.
