Live hog prices increased sharply

Explaining the reason for the increase in live hog prices, many traders said that the number of pigs sold was decreasing because the output of re-herd pigs in the previous period decreased.

Besides, the amount imported pork also decreased. According to the General Department of Customs, in the first quarter, Vietnam imported 21.1 thousand tons of pork, down 34.8% in volume and 39.7% in value over the same period in 2021.

In addition, recently, the raging African swine fever also caused a decrease in supply in farming households.

Reports of the Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development in An Giang, Tra Vinh, Soc Trang, Tien Giang… show that the number of pigs infected with and suspected of having cholera is several thousand in each locality. The functional departments of these localities have also destroyed pigs in large quantities.
