An elderly couple living in the Indian state of Uttarakhand told the newspaper Times of India that the money they asked the couple to pay was actually money spent on raising Shrey.

”I have only one son. I spent all my savings to raise and send my children to school.” Mr. Sanjeev said.

”My son returned to India in 2007 after the world economy fell into recession. He lost his job and couldn’t find another job for more than 2 years. I also had to financially support my son during this time.” Mr. Sanjeev added.

According to Mr. Sanjeev, he also arranged the meeting marriage for his son with his current daughter-in-law after his son was accepted to work for a company.

AK Srivastava, the lawyer representing the Sanjeevs, told ANI News that the case “represents the truth in Indian society”.

”They have invested in their children and helped them get jobs at reputable companies. The son owes his parents a financial support. Lawyer Srivastava said that the client made a request that either the couple give birth to a child within a year, or pay compensation.

Lawyer Srivastava added that the elderly couple wanted to sue their son and daughter-in-law for “causing serious psychological harm”.

”It’s every parent’s dream to become a grandparent. They had to wait many years to become grandparents. lawyer said.

It is known that the trial of Mr. Prasads’ family will take place on May 17.
