Shooting at an American supermarket left many people dead

On Twitter, the Buffalo Police Department said many people were shot but did not specify the number. One suspect has been arrested.

Meanwhile, one of the officials said, the subject entered the supermarket with a rifle and opened fire. The investigation is in its preliminary stages and authorities have yet to identify a clear motive, and are investigating the possibility that the shooting was motivated by racism. The supermarket where the incident happened is located in a predominantly black residential area. Investigators believe the man may have live-streamed the shooting on social media.

The Buffalo Police Department on the same day confirmed the gunman was “arrested” after police successfully persuaded him to surrender.

Buffalo is located in western New York state, near the border with Canada. New York Governor Kathy Hochul said he was monitoring the situation closely, asking Buffalo residents to “stay away from the area and follow the instructions of law enforcement and local authorities.”

US President Joe Biden has also been briefed on the incident. According to White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, President Biden will continue to be updated on developments on this shooting.

The representative of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Buffalo on the same day announced that it was investigating the above shooting as both a “hate crime” and an act of “violent extremism with ethnic motives”.
