Shooting leaves at least 10 dead in New York

According to Reuters news agency, authorities said the white suspect was carrying a gun and appeared to have acted alone. He drove from his home in a county in New York to Buffalo to carry out the attack at the Tops supermarket in a predominantly black community.

Local officials say that 11 of the 13 people hit by the bullets were black, while the other two were white.

The suspect surrendered when confronted by police. The suspect was wearing armor at the time.

At 3:26 pm (local time), information on Twitter, the Buffalo Police Department said that police were “at the scene of the mass shooting at Tops supermarket” and that “the shooter is detained”.

Authorities said the man would be investigated for “hate crimes” and “racially motivated violent extremism”.

Buffalo is located in western New York state, along the US border with Canada.

Buffalo Mayor Bryon Brown said: “This is a day of great grief for our community. Many of us have been in and out of this supermarket multiple times. We cannot let this person divide the community. or your country”.

“I am actively monitoring the situation of the supermarket shooting in Buffalo. We stand with the people of Buffalo,” said Chuck Schumer, a US senator from New York state, on Twitter.
